About the Adam Smith Institute

Eamonn is Director and co-founder of the Adam Smith Institute – one of the world’s leading economic and social policy think-tanks. Building on the principles of freedom, choice, and competitive markets, the Institute creates innovative but practical policy ideas through its research, reports, events, articles, and media work.

The Institute takes its name from the great Scottish economist Adam Smith (1723-1790), best known for his pioneering book The Wealth of Nations, which explained the importance of a free economy and a free society. Independent, non-party and non-profit, it is widely acclaimed for its work at the intellectual leading edge of privatisation, contracting out public services, tax reduction and simplification, deregulation, and internal markets in public services.

The Institute actively spreads its ideas to the next generation too, with school and university visits, seminars and conferences, and publications on the basic concepts of freedom and enterprise. It hosts Europe’s favourite think-tank blog, and tens of thousands of people subscribe to its online briefings and download its reports.
